One year in Norway

Nawale from France enjoyed her stay at BUC so much that she decided to take one extra semester in Hønefoss.

My name is Nawale. I am 21 years old and I am from France. I am a student at IUT university in Marseille, France, where my major is Business Administration.

At first I was only interesting in studying abroad, then my school told me about Scandinavia's school system where I had been told that it was one of the best school systems in Europe. My school had several partner schools I could choose from but only one school in Scandinavia which was BUC in Hønefoss. Therefore I chose to study at BUC in Norway.

Something different

I wanted to study abroad because I wanted to improve my language skills in English but also because it is really important in France to be able to communicate in English. My main goal was also to learn about a different culture. I wanted to try something completely different from what I am used to in France, and what I had heard about Norway seemed interesting to me.

Better school system

I have been studying in Norway for almost a year. I liked it so much the first time I came to take one semester that I decided to take the fall semester this year too. The school system in Norway is so much better than in France. It is totally different than in France like for example the relationship between the teacher and a student. It is so good here in Norway. The teachers here at BUC are not trying to be above you. Of course there is a respect for the teachers here but still it is a totally different relationship than in France. You can discuss everything with your teacher and you can speak free of your mind in the classes without the teacher trying to be above you.

The classes at BUC are more interactive and I like it more that way because it gives us students a chance to be more involved in what is being taught. Another thing that I really like is that the classrooms are small, and that makes it really easy to ask the teacher whenever we have a question about something. It is also more personal, whereas in France I am used to having classes in auditoriums where there are hundreds of students. It gets kinda boring because in France you just have to listen to what the professor has to say and write down everything you do not get the chance to question anything. Also, the teachers here are so helpful with everything. Everyone has been so nice and it really does not matter what kind of problem that I may have had, the teachers have always been there for me. Especially our student coordinator Anne-Kari.

Activities and new friends

I can definitely say that I have reached my goals and more than that. The first semester I was here I attended a lot of courses, whereas this semester has been so relaxing because I have not had that many courses this fall. This has however been really good because I have had the chance to go travel to different places in Norway and explore things I would never had the chance to do back home.

Also, the school has arranged a lot of different activities for us students which has been a really need thing for me because it has made us international students closer together. The activities give us students a chance to bond together so it is a really nice thing that the school do for us. I have made many new friends from all over Europe and I have already arranged with some of them that we will meet again in the future. I wanted to learn about Norway's culture, but in the same time I have learned about alot of other cultures because of the international students. I can definitely say that chosing Norway has definitely met my expectations.
