Business English

Objectives

This course is an introduction to various aspects of the international business world. Its aim is to make the students able to communicate in English both orally and in writing. The course will also aim at expanding the students' vocabulary and knowledge of English grammar.

The course will also focus on various aspects of American and British civilisation.

Literature from the English-speaking world will also be included in the course.

Topics

This course consists of themes like globalisation, brands, communication, advertising, innovation, strategy, ethics, leadership a.o.

American and British civilisation: 19th and 20th century history, ethnicity, regions, social dilemmas, political institutions, foreign affairs a.o.

1 novel and 5 short stories from the English-speaking world.

Student Project in cooperation with companies in Kongsberg.

Educational Procedure

The course will include listening comprehension exercises, oral work, written work, grammar, discussions, group work, case studies and lectures.

Pre-Requisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Assesments

Mid-term exam.

Final written exam of 3 hours.

All types of dictionaries are allowed for exam.
